Hello, I am a retired middle school librarian who loves languages, reading, nature, animals, gardening, and Kdramas.
I lived in Japan for 15 years, South Korea for 5 years, and Singapore for 1 year before moving to my home country The Netherlands for the first time to continue my studies in East Asian languages at Leiden University.
Because of my background and my love of languages, I believe that learning to speak languages is the best way to bridge countries and cultures and to help people become more open-minded.
I am retired now but continue to study. I recently started studying Mandarin Chinese again and am looking for conversation exchange partners.
I have some experience on this front since I studied Korean again and reached a respectable conversational level within a few years thanks to sites such as this one and by using other supplementary resources such as books, podcasts, and videos.
I would love to exchange English conversation sessions for Chinese Mandarin ones. I am a very patient teacher😊

I am a Japanese based in Oxford, UK. I sometimes find it hard to keep up with English conversations, especially with native speakers. I would like to get more used to the speed and idioms of real spoken English. If you have a regional accent, that is a bonus for me (I especially struggle with Scottish and other regional accents).
Aside from language learning, I am interested in:
British history, culture, architecture, and classic novels
Nature in general
Making tea
Drawing
Learning more about plants, animals, and the city I live in
If you are interested in these areas, I could be a good partner.
I can understand and write some classical Japanese and tend to use a relatively rich vocabulary (prob top 5% among native Japanese), but I am happy to slow down and use simpler Japanese if needed.
