Hello my name is Derek.
I live in Victoria bc.
I speak English and am currently learning Japanese.
I will be traveling to japan this June for 1 month. I feel learning as much as I can before then would be a great asset in my travel.
Having a language partner will help me learn much faster. Practicing my out put and listening will be my main focus.
Unfortunately I do process things slowly so patience will be greatly appreciated.
I am currently taking online classes everyday and am studying hiragana and katakana. I have gotten to the point where I can read the characters but not understand what I read.
I'm a pretty relaxed person easy to get along with. I like to go hiking, love playing all kinds of games except trivia, just getting outside mainly.

I am an international student from China, and I came to Canada three years ago to study Computer Science. My native language is Mandarin Chinese, and I can also understand Cantonese and hold basic conversations in it. I am fluent in reading and writing both Simplified and Traditional Chinese, considering both as my first languages. Furthermore, English is my second language—or third, if you consider Cantonese as a separate language from Mandarin—and it is the primary language I use for studying and working currently. I have previously done a bit of self-study in Korean and Japanese online, and I have a strong interest in learning both of these languages. I am very willing and happy to communicate and practice languages with international friends who are interested in language exchange and cultural sharing.
