Hi everyone, my name is Tony Tedja, 戴良庆. Pleased to meet you. I am a third generation Chinese-Indonesian (三代印尼华裔,祖籍福建泉州), living in the capital of Indonesia — Jakarta. I grew up speaking Indonesian at home, English at school, but Chinese nowhere - except for the Chinese tuition classes my parents forced me to take and which I halfheartedly took.
I went to two great schools in the US for both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees. I then decided to spend 6 months at the #1 purple university in Beijing just to acquire Chinese — while also managing to visit 20 provinces across the nation. I cherish equally the memories I made in both countries. I will always be grateful to have been given the opportunity to experience the two great societies of the 21st century as a young and plastic observer.
Although many native speakers have genuinely mistaken me for a fellow native speaker, my english is not flawless and certainly far from that elite subset of native speakers who have truly mastered the language. As for Indonesian, it is the language that I first acquired and therefore is also the language that I prefer to express my primal needs and emotions in.
I have only recently settled back for good in my hometown, and I’m already starting to feel the Chinese (and to a lesser extent the English) that I have just acquired (about 2000 characters/ 大约2千个字) will eventually be lost unless I practice it regularly.
I easily get lost talking about brilliant ideas, insights, business, global affairs, travel, food, and anything interesting, really. I’m Chinese so I don’t get offended very easily because I’m used to my parents insulting me at their disposal. I understand the principles of language acquisition, which applies universally to any language, and I have been trained by some of its best practitioners. In learning Chinese, I prioritize listening > speaking > reading > writing and therefore I will not bother to even attempt to write a translation of the previous passages in Chinese. 大家看不懂,不好意思,请使用AI软件翻译本文件 :)
期待和你们交朋友,深入聊天,一起进步!
p.s. I am not from the Cayman Islands. I just took advantage of their super lax regulations:)

Hi, I'm Kevin!
I'm passionate about learning languages and connecting with people from different cultures. Right now, I’m focusing on improving my French, and I’d love to practice with native speakers, or with French learners. I can help you with English or Indonesian in exchange.
A bit about me:
I love watching sport games (football/soccer, basketball), and socializing with friends.
I enjoy trying out food from around the world, and travel to new places.
My goal is to become fluent in French, improve speaking skills, and taking the TEF exam.
Feel free to message me if you want to chat or practice together!
